Together with Assist. Prof. Dr. Andrej Trampuz, he leads the interdisciplinary team for periprosthetic and implant-associated infections at Charité - University Medicine Berlin, Germany. 
 
In 2019, Dr. Sebastian Meller joined Andrej Trampuz's team at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin as a senior physician. 
 
He has been able to further expand his experience in the field of primary arthroplasty and revision arthroplasty of hip and knee joint. He implements the orthopedic surgical concepts of the PRO- IMPLANT Foundation in his clinical work. His research activities include clinical studies on implant-associated infections, such as the use of local patient-specific antibiotic carriers.

Dr. Sebastian Meller

Dr. Sebastian Meller is a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery as well as special orthopedic surgery at Charité - University Medicine Berlin. 

She did her infectious diseases fellowship at Charité – University Medicine Berlin, under supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Andrej Trampuz (3.5 years), and at Inselspital Bern (2 years). During the fellowship at Charité, implant-associated infections has been a major theme of her research activities. In addition, she has been establising and updating the PRO-IMPLANT Foundation Pocket Guides together with Assist. Prof. Dr. Andrej Trampuz and other specialists in the respective fields. 

Dr. Nora Renz

Dr. Nora Renz is an internal medicine and infectious diseases specialist, currently working in the Infectious Diseases Department at the University Hospital Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland. 

He received his MD degree from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1994, followed by specialist degrees at the internal medicine board in 1997 and at the infectious diseases board in 2001. He completed his postdoctoral research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA in 2001-2004, where he established the sonication procedure of removed implants. Thereafter, he established a research group at the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland, relocated to the University Hospital Lausanne, Switzerland in 2009 and was appointed as Head of the interdisciplinary Center for Septic Surgery in 2013 at the Charité – University Medicine Berlin in Germany. 
 
His laboratory research involves the development and validation of novel methods for diagnosis and treatment of implant-associated infections, including animal models, the emergence of antimicrobial resistance and the development of new diagnostic methods. He is one of the founders of the European Prosthetic Joint Infection Cohort (EPJIC), which includes infected joint prostheses from over 100 institutions across Europe and other continents. In addition, he is principal investigator of clinical trials involving implant-associated infections. He authored 112 peer-reviewed publications and 6 book chapters related to biofilm, implant infection, microcalorimetry, sonication and rapid microbiological diagnosis. 
 
In 2013, Assist. Prof. Dr. Andrej Trampuz founded the PRO-IMPLANT Foundation, dedicated to supporting research, education and management of implant-associated infections. Together with surgeons he organizes interdisciplinary Workshops on Prosthetic Joint Infection (PJI). In addition, the Charité hospital offers clinical observerships for osteoarticular infections as the Collaborative Centre of the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).

Assist. Prof. Dr. Andrej Trampuz, is a specialist of Infectious Diseases, Clinical Consultant and Head of the Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory at the Charité – University Medicine in Berlin, Germany.

Dr. Donara Margaryan, MD graduated at the University Miguel Hernandez in Alicante 2011, followed by residency in internal medicine at the hospital Sant Joan Despí Moisès Broggi in 2017, Barcelona, Spain. Since 2017 she is enrolled in the interdisciplinary unit for septic surgery of Charité – University Medicine Berlin. She is participating in the infectious diseases consultation service and is responsible for the coordination of clinical trials related to implant-associated infections.

Dr. Donara Margaryan

Dr. Anna Conen, MD MSc, is a specialist in Infectious Diseases, Clinical Consultant, and deputy Head Physician of the Infectious Diseases Clinic at the Kantonsspital Aarau, Aarau, Switzerland. 
 
Dr. Anna Conen received her MD degree from the University of Basel, Switzerland, in 2002. Thereafter, she received her board-certified specialist degrees in internal medicine in 2006 and in infectious diseases in 2008 in Basel, Switzerland. Since, she acquired a broad clinical experience in infectious diseases with a focus on implant-associated infections, not only in orthopedic and trauma surgery, but also in neurosurgery and cardiology. She is an excellent and well-respected clinical teacher.

Dr. Susanne Feihl, MD, specialized in clinical microbiology at Technical University Munich in 2012. In 2016 she joined the team of Assist. Prof. Dr. Andrej Trampuz for an infectious disease fellowship at Charité – University Medicine Berlin, participating in the infectious diseases consultation service.  Currently, she is working in the antibiotic stewardship team at Klinikum rechts der Isar, Technical University, Munich.

Dr. Susanne Feihl

Lilith Johannsen is a clinical study coordinator for the PRO-IMPLANT Foundation. She studied biology at the Free University of Berlin and received her Master of Science degree in 2019. She joined the group of Assist. Prof. Dr. Andrej Trampuz in January 2018 as a student assistant and since May 2019 she is responsible for the coordination of clinical studies that are conducted under the guidance of the PRO-IMPLANT Foundation.

Lilith Johannsen

Anna Koliszak joined the PRO-IMPLANT Team in 2016. In her position as manager of the Foundation, she is responsible for the management, coordination and implementation of most Foundation-related tasks and projects. Her previous degree in biotechnology and her laboratory work experience in the field of biofilm-associated infections give her a scientific background, which she applies to all areas of the foundation but especially to the implementation of educational materials and workshops.

Anna Koliszak

He has received his medical education at the University of Bâle and specialized in orthopaedics and traumatology at the hospitals of Liestal and Lausanne. After a one-year fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York his work concentrated on the traumatology of the acetabulum and the pelvis and on infections of the musculoskeletal system, especially following joint replacement. 
 
He has made his department a reference center for orthopaedic infections of the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), welcoming visitors from Europe, North and South America as well as Australia. Prof. Dr. Olivier Borens is intensely involved in scientific activities and regularly invited to present at national and international conferences. His research focuses, among others, on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periprosthetic infections, biofilm, local antibiotics and minimally invasive techniques in traumatology. 
 
He is president of the Swiss Orthopaedic Society, president of AOTrauma Switzerland, founder and former president of the Swiss Orthopaedic infection expert group, Trustee of AOTrauma and honorary member of the European Bone and Joint Infection Society. He takes active part in the education of medical students and the training of under- and post-graduate physicians. His publication list includes more than 120 journal articles, several book chapters and a great number of abstracts.

Prof. Dr. Olivier Borens

Prof. Dr. Olivier Borens, PhD, is Head of the Department of Septic Surgery and Head of the Orthopaedic-Trauma Unit of the Department for the Musculoskeletal System of the University Hospital in Lausanne (Switzerland).

Prof. Dr. Werner Zimmerli studied Medicine at the Basel University, Switzerland, and obtained the MD in 1974. After clinical fellowships in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, he worked in a research project at the Clinic of Infectious Diseases in Geneva. The project aimed to explain the high susceptibility of implants to infection, i.e. the pathogenesis of implant-associated infections. Afterwards, he worked as Senior Physician in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases Consultant at the University Hospital Basel. From 1984-85, he trained as Research Fellow in the field of granulocyte physiology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda/USA under the guidance of John I. Gallin. After this research stay, he completed his habilitation in Internal Medicine and became a Professor at the University of Basel in 1992. From 1991-99 he led the newly established Clinic of Infectious Diseases at the University Hospital Basel. From 1997-99 he was President of the Swiss Society of Infectious Diseases. From 1999-2013 he had a position as Professor and Head of Internal Medicine at the Medical University Clinic Liestal. 
 
Since 1979 his research focus was pathophysiology and treatment of implant-associated infections. A major breakthrough in the treatment of such infections was the proof of the effectiveness of rifampicin against biofilm infections. Together with Prof. Dr. Peter Ochsner, who worked in the same hospital as Head of Orthopedic Surgery, and with Assist. Prof. Dr. Andrej Trampuz (Infectious Diseases specialist), he developed a treatment algorithm for patients with periprosthetic infections, which was published in N Engl J Med. In 1996, Prof. Dr. Werner Zimmerli was appointed as “Corresponding Fellow” of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). He was a member of the IDSA-Guideline committee for diagnosis and treatment of prosthetic joint infections. The guidelines are based on the mentioned treatment algorithm, and apply today as an international standard. 
 
Since his retirement as Head of the Medical University Clinic Liestal, Werner Zimmerli continues to work as a Consultant in the Interdisciplinary Unit for Orthopaedic Infections at the Kantonsspital Baselland.

Dr. Daniel Pérez Prieto was the first fellow in the septic unit leaded by Assist. Prof. Dr. Trampuz in Charité - University Medicine Berlin and he also completed an observership in the CHUV-Lausanne under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Olivier Borens. Since then he has continued his collaboration in several workshops. 
 
He is also a member of the European Knee Associates (EKA) board and the Under-45 ESSKA committee. He is part of the Septic Arthritis Workgroup of the EBJIS. 
 
His research and clinical practice cover all orthopedic infections, focused in lower limb infections: osteomyelitis, prosthetic joint infections and arthroscopic infections.

Dr. Daniel Pérez Prieto

Daniel Perez-Prieto is an orthopedic surgeon currently working at 2 University hospitals: Hospital del Mar and Hospital Dexeus (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Barcelona,Spain).

Prof. Dr. Philipp Lobenhoffer was born 1956 in Rosenheim/Bavaria. He visited elementary school in Ireland and Germany, higher school and university in Göttingen and Vienna. His thesis was focused on high altitude medicine and the result of a three months research in Nepal. He started his training in surgery in 1981 at Hannover Medical School and had two years of orthopedic training at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. Working as consultant in the Trauma Department of Hannover Medical School (MHH), he got board certification as musculoskeletal surgeon in 1989 and academic professor in 1996. His scientific work focused on the knee joint and he was awarded with several prices as the GOTS-Beiersdorf award and the Michael-Jäger-Award. 
 
Since 1998 he was chief of a department for trauma and orthopedic surgery in a teaching hospital in Hannover (Henriettenstiftung). This department expanded continuously up to 75 hospital beds and 4000 surgical procedures per year. 
 
In 2009 he founded a new institution in Hannover, Sports Clinic Germany, focused on high-quality surgical treatment of injuries and degenerative diseases of shoulder, hip, knee and foot joints. This institution was reorganized in 2014 with the new name of Gelenkchirurgie Orthopädie Hannover (go:h) and reached wide acceptance and reputation on national and international level for joint surgery. 75 international fellows were welcomed at go:h for periods up to one year. 
 
Prof. Dr. Lobenhoffer acted as president of AGA (Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery) from 2003 to 2007 and as secretary of this society with presently over 4000 members until 2012. He was German President of GOTS (Orthopedic Sports Medicine Society) from 1999 to 2003. Since 2003 he is chairman of the Knee Expert Group of the AO Foundation, acting as medical expert for the development of knee implants. 
 
Prof. Dr. Lobenhoffer is corresponding member of OTA (Orthopedic Trauma Association) and the Austrian Trauma Society and honorary board member of GOTS. In 2012 he was elected the tenth honorary member of AGA. He is member of ISAKOS, AAOS and ACL study Group. He is editor of Arthroscopy and member of the editorial board of KSSTA, OOT and Unfallchirurg. His main scientific interest is the knee joint and he has worked on anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, knee dislocation, arthrolysis, unilateral knee replacement and osteotomy around the knee, especially with internal plate fixator systems (Tomofix). He has published over 200 scientific papers and acted as chief editor of two books on knee osteotomy and one book on shoulder arthroscopy.

Prof. Dr. Philipp Lobenhoffer

Assist. Prof. Dr. Rihard Trebše, PhD, obtained his medical education at Medical University in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1993. He defended his PhD thesis at Medical University in Ljubljana under the mentorship of Prof V. Smrkolj. In 2014 has been elected as Assistant Professor for Orthopaedics at Medical University in Ljubljana. Since 2012 he works as a Head of Service for Bone Infections at Valdoltra Orthopaedic Hospital, Slovenia. 
 
Between 2012 and 2015 he was the president of Slovenian Orthopedic Society, since 2009 he is a national delegate from Slovenia in European Hip Society, and since 2014 he is a national delegate from Slovenia in EFORT. In 2019 he became a president of EBJIS. His surgical expertise covers: bone infection surgeries, revision and primary hip and knee arthroplasty, osteotomies around the hip and open elbow surgeries. 
 
Assist. Prof. Dr. Rihard Trebše, PhD is a renowned scientist with various research interests. His most important research field has been the diagnostics and treatment of prosthetic joint infections but he was also involved in hip tribology and artificial joint survivorship studies. He is involved in design of new revision implants for acetabular reconstruction. Another focus of his work is the development and evaluation of computer aided surgical techniques for joint replacement and bone osteotomies of hip and knee joint. Since late nineties, his main contribution has been in implementation of CAD – CAM technologies in orthopaedic surgeries particularly in precision osteotomy cuts and socket navigation in hip replacement. He has also been investigating the importance of synovial cytology, the role of synovial interleukin, and the significance of molecular methods in diagnosing PJI as well as in basic science studies on osteoblasts, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and cartilage biology.
